…that New York is the only state that requires actual grounds for divorce?
In New York, a party may file for divorce on limited grounds:
- Cruel and inhuman treatment against the plaintiff;
- Abandonment of the plaintiff for a period of at least one year;
- Confinement of the defendant in prison for three or more consecutive years during the marriage;
- Adultery; or
- Legal separation for one or more years.
